Out with the new…in with the vintage.
We’re here to refresh your wardrobes and bring new life to old clothing. We’ve got everything you need to release your inner vintage psyche.
So who are we?
Co-Founder Carole juggles a full time job and family life with the role of Crane Vintage’s buyer.
Any free time is spent buying from auctions, flea markets, antique shops and vintage fairs in her quest for first class vintage clothing for the shop. First and foremost is quality and condition; these are pre-requisites for every vintage item that she procures. The focus is then getting them for the best price possible so that we can pass those savings on to you.
Passionate about all things vintage, Carole played with a till as a child and now has a her very own grown up till to cash up each night.
Co-Founder Robert gets to grips with everything else other than the clothes buying. From social media and marketing to IT and finances; figuratively he wears many hats.
So when not donning different hats, he finds himself both behind and in front of the till and his hand is never far away from the Jelly Beans which are on free vend in the shop. When not trying on vintage clothes, he spends way too much time stroking his beard and drinking coffee – hipster wannabe if ever there was one.
So what is Crane Vintage?
We are an independent clothing shop specialising in period vintage and vintage-style clothes. From 40s through to the 90s we have attire for all tastes and all occasions. You might be revamping your whole wardrobe or just need an outfit for a party or themed event; either way we will have something for you. Get in touch if you are looking for something particular and we will see if we have it in stock; failing that we can add it to the list for our next buying trip.
Ladies…we have party dresses, maxi dresses, boho dresses, skirts, cardigans and scarves as well as accessories including handbags, sunglasses and jewellery. Stock is constantly changing but we often have pieces by Karen Millen, Aquascutum and Liberty as well as pieces by Carnegie, Lady Vintage and Voodoo Vixen.
Gents, this is one store you won’t have to stand outside playing with your smartphone. From Levi jeans, leathers jackets, and waistcoats to tweed jackets and Hawaiian shirts, we have something cool for you too. Finally, for the man who has everything, we also have sock braces – who doesn’t need these in their life?
Have you got some vintage clothing in your spare room or in the loft that you want to sell – if so please get in touch! Because our shop is always busy, we can’t appraise the items there and then so here’s what you can do.
- Drop them into the shop, give us 72 hours to look at them and we’ll get back to you with a price.
- If you can’t get to the shop, email some pictures (the more the better) to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get back to you.
Condition is key so if YOU wouldn’t wear it due to being damaged then WE wouldn’t buy it. We also don’t buy furs.
So the question we are always asked is why are we called Crane Vintage?
Firstly, no it is not the founder’s surname and secondy, no the name wasn’t born out of the oriental belief that the Crane bird symbolises longevity and thus we are, in our own small way, increasing the longevity of the clothes we sell by giving them a new life.
The simple answer is that Carole bought the sign in our shop 12 months before we even had a slightest inkling that we would open a shop. When pondering names for our new business, we thought we would repurpose the sign and thought it would make a good name for a shop and as a result Crane Vintage was born. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. We hope you agree?
